NOMEX®is a synthetic aromatic polyamidepolymer that provides high levels of electrical,chemical and mechanical integrity over awide range of temperatures when convertedinto its various sheet forms.The polymer is made into floc (short fibers toprovide mechanical strength) and fibrids(microscopic filmy particles serving as binderand filler) which are then combined togetherto form sheet structures through specializedpaper and board making methods.In most cases the NOMEX®brand paper andboards are densified (by a calendering opera-tion) at high temperature and pressure topermanently lock the components together andproduce a relatively impermeable structurewith high levels of mechanical properties.
Type 411:non-calendered, it is available inthicknesses from 0.13 to 0.58 mm (5 to 23 mil).This type is often used as soft cushioningmaterial or when conformability and im-pregnability are of importance.
