民国成立后，铜元仍继续大量流通使用。1914年，铜元正式改称“铜币”，民国发行的铜币与清最大的区别是龙纹被换成了由稻穗组成的嘉禾纹。各省铸造的铜元大多为两面叉的国旗图案，并有“开国纪念币”或“中华民国铜币”字样。
因为双旗币产生于民国时期，民国在中国历史上仅仅存在了几十年的时间，因而，在混乱不安的时代，钱币在阅历了无量的岁月之后，仍然能够完好地保留下来，实属不易，具有很高的文物保藏价值、历史文化价值以及艺术品鉴价值。
